Surviving and Thriving Hurricane Florence

In thebhive family adventures, Uncategorized

We are lucky. Hurricane Florence may have only hit as a Cat 1, but she literally rained terror for so many people. Right now Wilmington, Burgaw, New Bern and many of our surrounding towns are still dealing withHurricane Flo, and she hit us a week and a half ago. Friends of ours still cannot enter their homes due to sinkholes that have formed under their house, kayaking up to their property to check on the damages and wading through chest-high water in hopes to recover some of their belongings. Many have lost their homes, businesses, and ways of life because this is just the beginning of the madness. I did want to clarify, in our “Survive and Thrived Hurricane Florence” video, we empathize with others who are still dealing with the aftermath. Our damage and “loss” are minimal and we are grateful. With that said, we have 4 kids…

Hurricane Florence

In thebhive family adventures, Uncategorized

Hurricane Florence… you’re such a homewrecker. Our house sustained some damage about halfway through the storm, the winds are still howling like crazy so there could be more. We were prepared for that, we live off the intercoastal in the woods… it was bound to happen. Even though storms are truly a pain in the ass. Johnny and I had our fun and enjoyed the quality time spent with each other(you can see us prep the house over on Youtube). Hurricanes are something you just knew were coming and let the weather come through. More importantly, I’m glad our children are able to experience this, gather an understanding of what to do, how to prepare, cleaning up post weather, and moving onward. It’s currently 12:38 PM, Johnny and I sit in the main room of our ‘bunkered-looking’ house. He is reclined in a lawn chair coming in and out of consciousness…

It’s a Bissonnette Family Reunion! Watch Out Sebastian WE’RE BACK!

In thebhive family adventures

Our Fourth of July Family Reunion Thankfully these days traveling from North Carolina to Florida isn’t awful. I mean it’s super tight with the 4 kiddos, Uncle Jimmy and Phoebe but overall the trip with pretty smooth. But this trip was a must! We haven’t had a family reunion since 2008. Unfortunately Joey didn’t make it down but hopefully after this trip the We got in super late, dropped Jimmy off at “Homebase” and we headed to where we were staying. Amy the oldest sister the sexy and savvy leader of the 11 Bissonnette originals, is a badass realtor and let us crash in her cute new house for the week Boat & Island Fun The next day we head out for boat day with Papa Chip. Anytime he can, seriously. He came up to help us back in June and between the two traveling dates he HAD to rent…

Playing in the Rain & Matthew FINALLY gets to shoot his BB gun!

In thebhive family adventures

This day was amazing! We started it off with a downpour of rain so we turned it into a baking morning. I think when we were done we ended up having cookies for days afterward; which in a household six, that’s impressive. After that, I got a wild hair and told everyone to go outside because a memory had unearthed itself.  When the hurricanes would turn Florida into more of a swampland more than it already is, we used to just pull our friends on boogie boards through the water because we didn’t have any true power. Therefore, as an adult, and a crafty guy, I created that vehicle/small pool event and the kids ended up having a great time. Even if they slid a little too far and scraped up their stomachs… all in the short window lifetime of being a kid. As for Matthew and his gun safety,…

Matthew & Dad ‘s Field Trip to the Beach

In thebhive family adventures, Uncategorized

Shiang-ling likes to poke fun at me whenever I get “irritated” by something Matthew’s done, or usually hasn’t done more likely and seems to always point out how similar we are mentally. He processes and overthinks things like Shiang-ling, but his demeanor and reactions are apparently all me. Which I think are great. I love getting to spend time with my son as I feel we are usually consumed by the ladies at the house and gives me a chance to pick his brain. I can only assume I’m doing a good job because a lot of times he references doing things by saying, “Well, when I’m a dad…” Which, I have to correct and say, “You know, you can do all this and still be a guy in college, or living overseas and learning about the world, etc…” We shall see. This trip though reminded me that homeschooling and…

thebhive family Volunteers – Work On Wilmington

In thebhive family adventures

Growing up I remember my dad ALWAYS being involved in our community and grew up volunteering and participating in a lot of different events and happenings. Fast forward to now having my own team of little worker minions and I am excited to pass on that “volunteer” bug. The kids, for the most part, understand that they are truly lucky and living a life that SO many aren’t able to. Both Johnny and I don’t want them to have that mindset that they are better or that they would never be like someone else isn’t present. So it was a perfect opportunity when Miranda told me she sign us up for some volunteer work. Our company is key to corporate social responsibility and leading by example. I was excited when Kate, who was organizing our team, said the kids were welcome to volunteer too! The only problem… we had to…

Dad & Alexis Clean Up Surf City Beach

In thebhive family adventures

So rare is it that I spend individual time with my children that when the opportunity to volunteer for a beach clean-up came up, I absolutely jumped on it. Not only did we have a great time taking care of the beaches, learning about the ecosystem and how the human populace is intertwined into the positive and negative aspects of coastal plains and sea life, but spent invaluable time with my oldest daughter who I’m sure, as she goes through this transitional time in her life when the Hormone Monstress (thanks “Big Mouth”) is beside her, will hopefully cherish and retain. I feel these days many parents find it too easy, as I have a time or two, to shrug off our children because we’re too tired, trying to make a deadline, working on something really important, to name a few of our classic lines. But spending time with our…

Farm Field Trip with Johnny & Jacob

In thebhive family adventures

This spending time with my kids has been such a rarity with my previous lifestyle within the military and now that I am in a transitional period of employment and life decisions, I’ve decided to slow the role and enjoy time with them. Jacob and I went to the farm and I made sure he knew that I was there to laugh with him, stimulate thought through educational and fun points I found throughout the day, and remind him that his dad cares about him and what he likes to do and what is currently present in his life. It was great watching him interact with not only teachers, but the other students and farm animals as well. He has proven that although he may be the “baby” of the family, he displays all the best qualities of patience, bravery, and drive to validate my involvement as a little man…
